With its headquarters in New York, United Nations International Children?s Emergency Fund or UNICEF is the largest organisation in the world for the protection and safeguard of international child and its mother. The primary aim of the Organization when it came in to existence in 1946 was to save and provide service both economic and physical as well as moral to the children and mothers greatly affected by the bombardment and devastations of the World war II. But later on it crept in to other areas of service like education, child survival and development, protection of child from violence, abuse and exploitation, protecting child from the effect of HIV/ AIDS, gender equality and other child related issues. UNICEF is mostly financed by the private agencies and charitable trusts and its member countries to carry out its missions through out the world. Its attempts to save the children from malnutrition, sexual abuse, and undermining have always been applauded. Ann Veneman is the Executive Director of the Organization working with heart to establish equality between both the sexes with equal advantages. The operation of the organization is going on in more than 150 countries by its more than 40 commissions so also through the non-government organizations. It is the premier leading organization for children in the world always working for the well being of the children and their all round development. It also appoints some goodwill ambassadors to create and spread consciousness among the people for the safety of the child and to ensure its bright future development.
