'Baby factory' sells newborn infants for ?11K

London, August 3 (ANI): Newborn infants are allegedly being sold by a controversial "baby factory" for 11,000 pounds.

The centre in Warsaw is run by Elizhbeta Shimanskaya, 32, who is a nurse.

It is home to 37 young surrogate mothers who give birth for couples who are unable to have children, but are happy to pay for a baby.

The women have been medically examined and checked for any family history of genetic disease.

They have also promised never to touch alcohol or smoke during pregnancy.

Babies are usually conceived using the male partner's sperm.

Couples have to adopt the babies immediately after birth irrespective of their health conditions.

Elizhbeta has revealed that the centre already has orders, and that she will give birth to three babies.

"Poland needs more people - 1.5 million couples face being childless. We are offering a service," the Mirror quoted her as saying.

While the Catholic Church is vehemently opposing the initiative, most Poles are backing it.

"The church is wrong. We can help these people, they cannot. We are living in the 21st century, not the dark ages," said one surrogate mother. (ANI)
