No Pakistani citizen would desire war: Naseeruddin Shah

New Delhi, Fri, 20 Mar 2009 ANI

New Delhi, Mar 20 (ANI): Bollywood actor Naseeruddin Shah has strongly condemned the people supporting war with Pakistan after the Mumbai terror attacks, and said there would not be a single citizen of Pakistan who desire war.

"There are many people who sprout nonsense about carpet bombing the enemy and we have the evidence, let's bomb them. They should take a little trouble to find out what actually happens in war, these guys should be given a gun each and send to the front to fight," Shah told NDTV in an exclusive interview.

"It's very easy to say let's kill and make a hole in the enemies chest and fly the tricolor in it. It's not what we should be looking at and I don't think there would be a single citizen of Pakistan who desires kinds of things we do and I think the bloodlust explains the kind of success of a film like Ghajini," he added.

After working in serious movies like 'Khuda ke Liye' and 'A Wednesday', Shah has come up with yet another film 'Firaaq' which draws the attention of people towards the serious issues.

"I would say it is the responsibility of serious minded filmmakers to do that, not for the sake of bringing about immediate change or otherwise but to get a record of its times," Shah said.

"I think 'Firaaq' is a very accurate and hard-hitting picture of what happened. It is all very good to say that don't rake up old wounds and so on which is a criticism we have been subjected to quite a bit since we made the movie," he added.

When asked about the Mangalore pub attack on young girls for talking to boys, Naseer said the people are now more concentrating on what divides us rather than what unites us.

"I wonder if it is ever going to be possible again. I think we are now concentrating so much on what divides us rather than what united us that we are heading up a dangerous path," he added.

Naseer also criticized the Mullahs for pasting fatwas to Muslims who also obey another faith, saying if respecting another person's faith makes him Kafir then he was Kafir. (ANI)
