Aug 27: Sunday night brought some fine moments for Indian football lovers when host team India enters the final of ONGC Nehru Cup Football here in the Ambedkar Stadium. Now India will take on the most favorite Syria and hope this will be another exciting match with attacking play as India and Syria has displayed so far in the tournament.
In the semifinal match against Kyrgyzstan Baichung Bhutia was the man to lead his team with an emphatic 3-0 win. Bhutia in the entire season looks very confident and in his best of form after coming back to the game and hope he will continue this as a striker in the final too.
In the middle of the first-half though Kyrgyzstan managed to show some attack to the Indian defender but those couple of long range shots were not enough to bother Indian goal keeper Subrato Paul.
The yesterday match was really showed some excellent game by the Indian midfield by controlling the ball most of time. Then it was Bhutia and Sunil Chettri in the forward and their commanding performances that gave India the 1-0 lead in the 39 th minute.
It was non other than Baichung Bhutia who did not missed a pass of Renedy Singh and convert it to an excellent goal beating two defenders that shows his magic skills in the game.
In the rest of the first half India defense did not gave much option to the opponent and finish the first half with 1-0 lead. Soon after the game resumes in the second half Indian forward showed some attacking shots but couldn’t manage to turn them into goals. However, in the 60 th minute it was Steven Dias who beautifully passed the ball to Bhutia and then Bhutia to Chettri finally convert the scoreboard 2-0.
From now India looked dominant in the game as Kyrgyzstanis played the rest with totally unplanned manner and attacked most of the time that goes aimless. However, with counter attack Indian Ajayan Nair make an excellent through ball to the substitute Abhishek Yadav who overcame the defender and complete the scoreboard to 3-0 in the 93 rd minute.
