Pak 'Elite Police' force lacks basic maintenance equipments for its weapons

Lahore, Thu, 19 Mar 2009 ANI

Lahore, Mar.19 (ANI): The Pakistani 'Elite' and 'Mujahid' forces don't have basic equipment required for the maintenance of their weapons.

Officials at the Qurban Lines and Qila Gujjar Singh Police Post have complained about the non-availability of equipment required to clean weapons, reports the Daily Times.

Media reports have claimed that the 'elite force' that was escorting the Sri Lankan cricket team did not retaliate against the terrorists gunfire during the Lahore attack because the weapons they had were out dated, and failed to fire at that moment.

One official said he fired five shots at one of the terrorists, but his rifle malfunctioned. He was subsequently injured in the gun battle.

Police personnel escorting the Sri Lankan cricket team managed to fire only 13 shots during the whole incident, but another report said 423 were fired bullets during the shootout, but none hit the attackers.

The Lahore Police says the attackers were firing from and thus escaped retaliation.

Superintendent of Police (Mujahid Force) Babar Bakhat Qureshi has asked concerned officials to submit a report regarding the use of archaic weapons. (ANI)
