Lynch of Boyzone gives up alcohol for band's reunion

Europe, Mon, 09 Mar 2009 IANS

London, March 9 (IANS) Singer Shane Lynch of Boyzone gave up alcohol so that he could focus on the band's comeback.

The group had split in 2000 after selling more than 20 million records. They are now getting back and working on a new album, reports contactmusic.com.

Lynch confessed that he started drinking heavily to cope with the fame. He said: 'We all liked a gargle - a good drink - but I probably liked it a bit too much. I was drinking too heavily but it was a good release. I was a young boy with lots of money and what do you do? You drink.'

But he realised it was getting dangerous and added: 'I had to knock it on the head though. I thought this isn't the way forward at all.'
