Nepal granted excise duty waiver from India

Kathmandu, March 7 (ANI): The two-day trade talks between Nepal and India concluded on Friday with Nepal winning major concessions from the India

 

Kantipur quoted Surya Prasad Silwal, joint-secretary of the Ministry of Commerce and Supplies, who led the Nepali delegation as saying, India has agreed to exempt excise and other duties while Nepal imports goods from India with Indian currency.

 

"This provision is the same as India applies when it exports goods to other countries for hard currency," he said.

 

India has also agreed not to impose custom restrictions on Nepali equipment being taken to India for repair. Earlier, India had been insisting specifying the age of equipment for which such restrictions would not be imposed.

 

There was also an agreement on opening the international airports as trade routes in addition to land routes. Tribhuvan International Airport will also be a trade route for Nepal and for India its four airports in Delhi, Calcutta, Mumbai and Chennai.

 

There was also talk of increasing the number of land trade routes between the two nations.

 

The agreements reached between the two countries will be presented at the secretary-level meeting later, the date for which has not been decided. (ANI)
