Melbourne, Mar 5 (ANI): Sri Lankan spin king and the highest wicket taker in the world, Muttiah Muralitharan, has cast doubts on his immediate playing future following Tuesday's traumatic attack in Pakistan.
Muralitharan thought his teammates were being slaughtered before his eyes.
He and Australian Cricketers' Association president Darren Lehmann last night demanded improved security arrangements for international teams after several Sri Lankans were injured in the Lahore attack.
"There are terrorist attacks everywhere. Nowhere will be safe any more. Last time sports people were attacked was at Munich in 1972. It is an eye-opener for everyone.
Security, everywhere you play, has to be tightened. We travel in groups of 23 or 25 - it is an easy target. So in future, people should travel alone," Muralitharan said.
Asked if he would feature in the forthcoming Indian Premier League season with Chennai Super Kings, Muralitharan said: "I don't know, we have to speak to them, see how the security is, make sure everything is right . . . not only IPL, England, anywhere. I never in my dreams thought we would be attacked."
Former Test batsman Lehmann called the International Cricket Council to ensure watertight security at all venues.
Muralitharan, speaking on Adelaide Radio, even suspected terrorists were tipped off about the team's poor security between the team hotel and Lahore's Gaddafi Stadium.
"Somehow, in this incident, there were no police with guns on the bus. If someone was there with a gun, we would have had a chance of defending ourselves," he added. (ANI)
