Pak team failed in all departments against Lanka: Malik

Lahore, Sun, 25 Jan 2009 ANI

Lahore, Jan.25 (ANI): Shocked after suffering his worst ever defeat in one day internationals, Pakistan cricket captain, Shoaib Malik has admitted that his team failed in all departments of the game during the series against Sri Lanka.

Malik said losing the home series was a big disappointment for him.

"It is not an encouraging result, of course, it is a disappointment as we flopped in batting and bowling and it was not that kind of the performance and result I was looking forward," he said at his post match press conference on Saturday.

Pakistan suffered its heaviest defeat on Saturday, losing the third and final ODI against Sri Lanka by 234 runs.

Replying to Sri Lanka's score of 309, Pakistan collapsed for 75 runs.

Malik said the team lacked consistency and the irresponsible performance by the batsmen made the matter worse.

"Lankans performed better and their batsmen posted a big total which we failed to chase due to our reckless batting," he said.

Malik, however hoped that the defeat would help the team to re-organise itself and do better in future.

"It's cricket and things some times do not happen the way you plan. We must learn from this defeat to overcome the problem," The News quoted him, as saying. (ANI)
