Washington, Jan.10 (ANI): USINPAC, a group representing the interests of Indian Americans in the United States, has recommended the name of Pepsico Chairperson Indra Nooyi as its candidate for the job of Commerce Secretary in the Barack Obama administration.
In a statement, it said : "USINPAC is recommending to the Obama transition team that Indra Nooyi be considered for the position of Secretary of Commerce. Further, we hope that, if she is approached, Ms. Nooyi will consider the post. In this currently tough economic climate, her global vision, leadership and ideas would be exactly what President Obama would need for a position that he has called the 'leading economic diplomat for America".
"We stand firm in the belief that she is the best candidate for the position, since her resume as a captain of industry and her work in the community speaks for itself," the statement concluded.
Nooyi has been with PepsiCo since 1994, and was named president and CFO in 2001. On August 14, 2006, she was named the CEO of PepsiCo, becoming the fifth CEO in PepsiCo's 42-year history
According to BusinessWeek, while she was CFO of Pepsi, the company's annual revenues rose by 72 percent, while net profit more than doubled, to 5.6 billion dollars in 2006. Forbes magazine named her as the third most powerful woman in 2008. (ANI)
