Radiant tributes to Field Marshal Manekshaw
Senior citizens and Liberation war veterans of Bangladesh made a proposal that roads should be named in Bangladesh in honor of Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw, General Jagjit Singh Arora and Indira Gandhi. This proposal came out in a memorial meeting in Dhaka for Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw. The meeting was chaired by Professor Kabir Chowdhury.

Forum for Secular Bangladesh and Trial of War Criminals of 1971 organised the discussion at the Women's Volunteers Association auditorium in Dhaka, the capita city of Bangladesh, where participants paid a rich tribute to Manekshaw, saying that he played a leading role in achieving the liberation of Bangladesh and must always be remembered.
The meeting paid radiant tributes to the great Indian warrior and said that his contribution, and Indian role, during the war of 1971 cannot be forgotten. Field Marshal Manekshaw led the Bangladesh-India Joint Forces during the liberation war in 1971.
AK Khandker, who was deputy commander-in-chief of the liberation war of Bangladesh, said Manekshaw devised a strategy for liberation that forced the Pakistan army into early surrender. Manekshaw also underlined the need for proper training of the country’s freedom fighters.
Awami League presidium member Abdur Razzak said: ‘Manekshaw was an efficient war leader. He knew where and when to attack the enemy.’ ‘Manekshaw had understood that it was not a war between India and Pakistan. It was a war of India and Bangladesh against Pakistan, Razzak added.
Acting President of Forum for Secular Bangladesh Shahriar Kabir proposed that roads should be named in Bangladesh in honor of Indira Gandhi, then prime minister of India, Field Marshal Manekshaw and General Jagjit Singh Arora who played leading roles to help us achieve our freedom. He also proposed constructing a memorial for Indians who were martyred during the war.
The Communist Party of Bangladesh General Secretary Mujahidul Islam Selim, Workers Party President Rashed Khan Menon, Professor Ajoy Roy, and Bangladesh Mahila Parishad General Secretary Ayesha Khanam also spoke at the meeting.
