'Mumabi Indian' Ashish Nehra too expensive for Worcestershire

Tue, 01 Jan 2008 ANI

London, July 5 (ANI): Unable to pay more money demanded by Indian pacer Ashish Nehra, Worcestershire has decided to drop him from its squad for the second half of the season.

The county's chief executive said that because of huge financial rewards in the IPL, overseas players' demands have gone out of the counties' reach. "It has been extremely difficult to find a suitable overseas. The Indian Premier League has changed everything. Prices have gone through the roof," said Worcestershire chief executive Mark Newton.

Nehra represented Mumbai Indians in the first IPL series held in April-May.

Nehra was lined up as a replacement for West Indian quick Fidel Edwards, who was forced to withdraw through injury, and had agreed terms but now the deal has been called off, he said.

"The deal had been cleared with the Indian Cricket Board and we were expecting him to come and join us pretty much straight away. But then he came back to us asking for more money and saying the deal started too soon. As a result, I can confirm he will not be joining us," the Daily Times quoted Newton as telling to a foreign news agency. (ANI)
