April 17: The chairperson of BNP Bangladesh National Party, Begum Khaleda Zia, and former PM of Bangladesh might have to leave her country with her sons. Her exile had been agreed upon as a negotiating deal with military backed interim government, media reports said today. Khaleda is supposed to fly any time and will be have to serve the exile for an unspecific period of time. Her younger son, Arafat Rahman Koko, was released today and within 24 hours after being arrested from Khaleda resident in Dhaka, yesterday. Her eldest son, who is an influential person in Dhaka, Tareque Rahman, was also arrested from the same place on March 07, 2007. He is now in the central jail. He was arrested for the charges of extortion. However Koko, who shows least interference in political matters, was arrested on the charges of corruption.
Though there is no official version or any proof that can verify the fact, but rumours about the exile of former PM rife out through the night. According to a report, which claims as having been come from a “high placed government source,� Khaleda along with other family members may visit Saudi Arabia on the basis of a month long visa to perform Umrah Haj
The chairperson of BNP Bangladesh Nationalist Party, Khalida Zia is facing a charge of demanding a sum of three crore Taka from a business man for issuance of permission to implant a 110 MW power plant in Dhaka. Besides this the Bangla police have also charged her along with 45 others for the killings of six people belonging to fundamentalist Jamaat-e-Islami, a partner of Zia’s government.
