Sharif's by-poll disqualification is a setback for democracy: Gilani
Lahore, June 29 (ANI): Pakistan Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani has said that the by-poll disqualification of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) chief Nawaz Sharif is a great setback for democracy in the country.
Talking to reporters at Lahore's Allama Iqbal International Airport, Gilani said his government believed in the independence of judiciary and the rule of law, and was committed to the reinstatement of the sacked judges.
According to the Daily Times, Gilani said: "The draft of the constitutional package has been sent to the coalition partners and it will be tabled in the parliament after they reach consensus on the issue."
The parliament is a supreme authority and any decision about the constitutional package will be taken there, Gilani said. (ANI)
