French cars finish last in Brits' favourite cars poll

London, June 27 (ANI): French cars seem to have lost their "va va voom", for the country's six cars are languishing at the bottom of a new satisfaction survey by Which? Car magazine.

Six of the 10 worst cars in a Which? poll were French, with drivers complaining of poor reliability, cheap interiors and clunky gearboxes.

On the list were three Renaults - the Espace, the Laguna, and Scenic - which have "lost their va va voom", according to Richard Headland, the editor of the magazine.

Drivers of the Espace, which came last, said it was "a total waste of money". The second-from-bottom Laguna (2001-07 model) was described as an "unreliable bag of spanners".

Citroen and Peugeot fared little better in the survey, which asked 90,000 motorists to rate their cars out of five for "customer satisfaction" and how likely they are to "recommend it to a friend".

The Peugeot 206 and 207 clocked in at 211th and 212th place respectively, and the Citroen Xsara at 214th. Drivers said the Peugeots were "poor quality with lots of small faults".

A spokesman for Renault said the company "acknowledged the quality issues which affected some of our older models", adding that "vehicle quality is one of Renault's key three objectives in its Renault Commitment 2009 programme".

Seven of the top 10 cars were Japanese, although the best car was the German-built Porsche Boxster.

"Japanese cars are very popular, because at the end of the day people just want a car that is going to start in the morning," the Telegraph quoted Headland, as saying.

"They are also very good at fuel efficiency which is becoming more and more important to drivers as petrol prices continue to soar," he added. (ANI)
