New Delhi, June 27 (ANI): Chief of Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal FH Major, today condoled the passing away of Field Marshal Sam Hormusji Framji Jamshedji Manekshaw.
In his condolence message to the family members of Field Marshal Manekshaw, Air Chief Marshal FH Major said, "An iconic leader, Field Marshal Manekshaw or 'SAM' as he is fondly called, will be remembered as a revered leader of the Indian Armed Forces, and indeed of the nation, who exemplified the true spirit and ethos of a military leader and inspired generations of Indians to stand up and confront adversity in all its forms."
"Sharp and witty till the end and imbued with an indomitable fighting spirit, he will continue to live on in the minds of committed citizens and will inspire them to take the nation forward," Air Chief Marshal FH Major added.
Field Marshal Manekshaw died at the Military Hospital in Wellington early this morning. He was 94.
Almost all his family members were at his bedside when the end came just past midnight.
Field Marshal Manekshaw will be accorded a funeral with full military honours.
Minister of State for Defence M M Pallam Raju will represent the Government at the funeral.
The body has been taken to his residence for religious rites. Then, it will be kept at Madras Regiment Centre (MRC) where the public will pay their homage.
Later, the cortege will leave for the Parsi funeral ground at Udhagamandalm. (ANI)
