Baghdad, Nov 14 (Xinhua) A private aircraft has crashed in western Iraq, killing all the seven crewmembers on board, a US military statement said Friday.
The Russian-made An-12 cargo plane crashed Thursday before midday in a desert area while it was enroute from the al-Asad air base in Anbar province to Baghdad, the statement said.
The aircraft, operated by a Dubai-based firm, was carrying FedEx Express packages among its cargo when the incident took place, the military said.
'Mechanical failure or pilot error' could be the cause of the accident, the US military said, adding that an investigation was under way.
In a statement, FedEx also confirmed that an aircraft operated by one of its contractors to carry FedEx Express cargo crashed in western Iraq.
'FedEx is closely monitoring the situation and is working with the contractor to investigate the situation,' the statement said.
