The world’s largest mobile phone manufacturer Nokia moving towards a greener environment now has planned to launch 40 new biodegradable handsets by the end of this year considering the growing number of unused mobiles phones with the coming of new models each month.
To ensure recycle of those unused mobile phones lying in the home so that they can be reused, it has been a recent endeavour from some of the leading handset makers to promote sustainable living.
Nokia is all set to produce 40 new handsets and make their consumers aware of the toxic material to avoid the destruction of idle cell phones, and submitting them for recycling for nature’s cause instead.
The company in its green initiative would not only manufacture products with materials that are easily biodegradable but also plan to collect its old products from consumers for recycling. It also aims at using biomaterials like polylactic acid (PLA) meaning plastics with plant or other biomass-based substances which are renewable.
Nokia aims to use biodegradable phone covers, batteries and other accessories developed with less toxic materials. In addition, the company has plans to reduce the power consumption of mobile phone chargers up to 50% by 2010 and is trying to promote awareness about recycle issues among its consumers to conserve environment.
In the first week of the month, the mobile phone manufacturer through its ‘Nokia Take-back’ programme has kicked off its cell-phone recycling campaign. The company is trying to bring more and more mobile users to the forum by extending this to all the Nokia Care centres around the world in order to encourage consumers in recycling their mobile devices.
By just returning old/unused phones and accessories for recycling, people can really contribute to the great cause of nourishing the eco-system.
