Illiterates cannot apply for jobs in Saudi Arabia

Gulf-Middle East, Wed, 05 Nov 2008 IANS

Dubai, Nov 5 (IANS) Saudi Arabia has banned illiterate foreigners from taking up jobs in the country following a study on the crime scene in the country.

Saudi Minister for Interior Prince Naif Bin Abdulaziz has approved a proposal by his ministry not to bring anyone, who does not read and write, for jobs in that Gulf nation.

The move comes after an interior ministry research found that uneducated foreign workers topped the list of criminals in the country.

Saudi missions abroad have been directed to make this a precondition for recruitment before issuing job visas, the official Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.
