Three HINDRAF leaders quizzed by Malaysian police

Kuala Lumpur, Wed, 15 Oct 2008 ANI

Kuala Lumpur, Oct.15 (ANI): Three Hindu Rights Action Force (HINDRAF) leaders were questioned by police on Tuesday on the alleged "illegal assembly" at the Muslim ministers' Hari Raya open house at the Putra World Trade Centre earlier this month.

According to a New Strait Times report, S. Jayathas, K. Selvam and K. Santhi, who is the wife of the movement's chairman P. Waythamoorthy, were questioned at the Dang Wangi police headquarters.

They entered the police station about 3 p.m. local times accompanied by their lawyers N. Surendran and Latheefa Koya.

Speaking to reporters an hour later, Surendran said his clients invoked Section 112(2) of the Criminal Procedure Code, which meant they did not answer any of the questions put to them by the investigating officer Assistant Superintendent Sydney Clyde Jeremiah.

"The set of 28 questions which my clients were asked suggested they had committed no offence," he said.

The three were served notices last week to present themselves for questioning at the Dang Wangi police headquarters.(ANI)
