Australia in driver's seat to reclaim Border-Gavaskar Trophy

Sydney , Thu, 05 Jan 2012 ANI

Sydney, Jan 5 (ANI): Tremendous batting display from the Australians has put the team in the driver's seat to reclaim the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and killing India's hopes of a landmark series win away from home.

Australia could well complete the humiliation by soon going ahead of the tourists in the ICC world rankings.

A 2-0 series lead for Clarke's team appears inevitable. To take a couple of steps ahead, should Australia go on to win in Perth and then Adelaide, it would draw level with India in third place in the ICC Test rankings.

Predicting a series whitewash this summer at the moment is premature, but the mere possibility that Australia could reel in India in the next three weeks is indicative of the power balance of this series, and this match, The Age reports.

India was made to sweat it out interminably as primarily Clarke brought up milestone after milestone.

The ovations from the crowd, unfortunately for India, were not only confined to celebrating the achievements of Clarke, and earlier Ponting, whose 134 was his first Test hundred in nearly two years.

Spectators also rose to acknowledge, tongues firmly in cheeks, the 100 runs conceded by pacer Ishant Sharma and spinner Ravichandran Ashwin. (ANI)
