London, Dec 3 (ANI): Chinese customs officers have seized golf sensation Rory McIlroy's US Open trophy.
cIlroy, 22, had been hoping to show off the prestigious silver jug at his final six tournaments of 2011.
It was shipped to Shanghai ahead of the big WGC-HSBC Champions event there at the start of November.
But because nobody was at the course to receive the trophy hardline port officials - who have steadfastly refused to hand it back to the world number two, impounded it.
Now his agents, Dubai-based Horizon Sports, are desperately trying to retrieve the historic trophy, which dates back to 1895 when it was won for the first time by Englishman Horace Rawlins, The Sun reports.
Spokesman Conor Ridge said: "We have tried to send someone to Shanghai so they can be handed the trophy in person but Chinese customs are just not releasing it. We have now got the US Golf Association involved."
Rory became the US Open's youngest winner since Bobby Jones in 1923 when he stormed to an eight-stroke victory at the Congressional course in Bethesda, Maryland, in June. (ANI)
