Advani seeks explanation from Sonia Gandhi over rampant corruption

Jaipur, Fri, 11 Nov 2011 ANI

Jaipur, Nov. 11 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) veteran Lal Krishna Advani on Friday hit out at Congress President Sonia Gandhi and demanded an explanation from her over all the corruption charges levelled against the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government.

Advani, who is on presently on a nationwide mass awareness campaign as part of his 'Jan Chetna Yatra', said: "The head of the Indian Government, in reality is the chief of Congress Party (Sonia Gandhi). It is not the Prime Minster, but the chief of Congress Party. Why is she silent about this issue (corruption)? I again repeat this question."

"The country would want to know, what is her perspective? Such massive scandals are happening, what is her role? Why has she not taken any steps in that direction?" he added.

Continuing his verbal attack at the Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh, Advani said that he took no action against all those who were involved in various corrupt practises.

Advani said that it was only after the intervention of the judiciary and the Comptroller and Auditor General's (CAG) report that the corrupt were sent behind bars.

"Thereafter, the task of sending the corrupt politicians to jail or to remove them should have been done by the Prime Minister, but he didn't do anything. It was either done by the order of court or by the report of the CAG, not by the Prime Minister or by his administration," said Advani.

"Hence, I am deeply disturbed by the fact that one person who gained so much respect from the people of the country for his role as an administrator, but today he is the leader of the most corrupt government in independent India," he added.

Advani further said after the commencement of the Parliament's Winter Session the BJP would force the Centre to reveal the steps that have been taken to bring back the black money stashed in safe havens abroad.

"I don't know the steps taken till now by the Government of India. In the coming session, we will force the government to reveal all the steps taken and then force the government to bring back all the money. The information that we have received till now, generates worry, because the steps taken by the government are in the direction to save some people," he said.

Advani kicked off his nationwide tour from Sitab Diara village in Bihar on October 11, to take on the UPA Government on the corruption issue and press for return of black money stashed away abroad.

The 38-day long yatra will conclude in Delhi on November 20 in the form of a massive rally. (ANI)
