Perth, Oct 28 (ANI): Maldives President Mohamed Nasheed on Friday said that India is constantly investing and assisting in climate change at a rate much higher than several other developed nations.
Appreciating Indian policies surrounding climate change, he said that India's contribution has been phenomenal and higher than many other developed countries.
"The amount of Indian investments, the amount of Indian assistance for climate change issues it's very high. If you look at your numbers they are higher than many many developed countries," Nasheed told mediapersons here.
The 54-nation Commonwealth Heads of Government Summit Meeting (CHOGM) is presently being held in Perth.
Meanwhile, Nasheed hoped that the meet emerges to be a concrete step towards improving trade and investment agreements between the Commonwealth nations.
"I hope that we will be able to very successful summit. We have already seen that India and Pakistan are much amicable; I am hoping that the railways agreement can be concluded and also the investment protection agreement can be concluded and we are also hoping that the sensitive list of items for trade can be reduced hopefully by a factor of about 40 percent. So, I hope this is going to be a much strong summit," he said.
Nasheed further said the relations between India and Maldives are at an all time high and will continue to strengthen in times to come.
This summit also holds great importance for India, as it is the largest member of the Commonwealth.
India is presently the fourth largest contributor to the Commonwealth's assessed budgets and the fifth largest contributor to the voluntary Commonwealth Fund for Technical Cooperation (CFTC), which is used for providing technical assistance and capacity-building to its developing member states.
