London, Sep 24(ANI): Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger fears that the club's 'wage gap' could force some of the star players to follow Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri out of the Emirates Stadium next year.
Wenger says that it is crucial to Arsenal's prospects that new deals are signed by Robin van Persie, Theo Walcott, Thomas Vermaelen, Andrey Arshavin and Johan Djourou, who are in the final season of their contracts.
"We will try to sign them, but we have tried before. The gap on that front has become bigger for us. I cannot say that if we go to our maximum wage we are sure to sign the players," the Sun quoted Wenger, as saying.
"We will try to convince them. Our desire is there and we are ready to sit down with them. After that we will see where we go," he added.
Fabregas had joined Barcelona despite Arsenal's best efforts to keep him, while Nasri, with just a year left of his deal, joined Manchester City for 22 million pounds last month. (ANI)
