London, Sept 13(ANI): The London headquarters of former military ruler Pervez Musharraf's one-year old All Pakistan Muslim League (APML) has reportedly been shut down over the non-payment of monthly rent, utility bills and council tax for five months.
The APML owes to the landlord 19,000 pounds in rent money, which has not been paid for five months now and this does not include the council tax and other utility bills, The News quoted an informant from the party, as saying.
Musharraf gave 50,000 pounds to a senior position holder of the party for running the office and other affairs of the party, but "a lot of it has been embezzled," the source claimed, and this has been verified by various reliable APML insiders, the paper said.
The annual rent of the party's Old Street headquarter was 38,000 pounds, and amounted to 45,000 pounds a year in total when local council taxes etc. were included.
"Right now, £19,000 is owed to the landlord and we were locked out just before the start of the Ramazan. Many meetings have been held so far but no way forward has been found to resolve this problem. A lot of money is involved and it's clear that Musharraf has been deceived," said the source, confirming that Musharraf did pay the money to his lieutenants.
According to the paper, the landlord is considering taking the leaseholders to the court to recover the payments.
The bailiffs are already involved in legal proceedings against the leaseholders- both of whom are UK nationals.
Meanwhile, APML spokesperson Fawad Chaudhry has denied the reports about the closing down of the party's London office.
In a statement, he said that the APML office has been relocated to 729 Green Lane, Romford Essex RM8 1UT, United Kingdom.
"All bills and rentals were duly paid and in UK, the tenant cannot retain such bills," Chaudhry said, regretting the malicious campaign against the APML. (ANI)
