Nevada (US), August 1 (ANI): Pattaya city in Thailand is reportedly celebrating a 10-day Ganesh Festival.
The festival will begin on August 24 and end with the immersion of Lord Ganesh statue in water on September 2 and will also include stage shows.
A huge statue of Ganesh will be constructed for the festival and shall be taken in procession through the town before immersion, reports suggest.
Meanwhile, distinguished Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, in a statement in Nevada (USA) on Sunday, applauded the efforts of Pattaya city and area Hindu and other community to realize this wonderful Ganesh Festival.
Zed, who is president of Universal Society of Hinduism, further said that it was important to pass on Hindu spirituality, concepts and traditions to coming generations amidst so many distractions in the consumerist society and hoped that this annual Festival would focus in this direction.
He stressed that instead of running after materialism; we should focus on inner search and realization of Self and work towards achieving moksh (liberation), which was the goal of Hinduism.
Pattaya, about 165 km from Bangkok in Chonburi province, is second most visited city of Thailand. It is known for its Nong Nooch Tropical Botanical Garden, the Wat Khao Phra Bat temple with over 18-m-tall Buddha statue, and world-class golf courses.
In Hinduism, elephant-headed and human-bodied Lord Ganesh is worshipped as god of wisdom and remover of obstacles and invoked before the beginning of any major undertaking. Hinduism, oldest and third largest religion of the world, has about one billion adherents. (ANI)
