McIlory saddened by Ireland violence

London, June 23 (ANI): US Open winner Rory McIlory has expressed sadness over fresh sectarian violence in Ireland.

 

The 22-year-old golf champion, who lives near Belfast, said the people of Ireland deserve a peaceful future, The Sun reports.

 

"It is sad to see what has happened in the last couple of nights. I know that 99.9 per cent of the population doesn't want to see that" McIlory said.

 

"And, if I can just be a little bit of positive in the news then that is great. I think everyone just wants to live in peaceful times, and Northern Ireland deserves it" he added.

 

He said he was aware of his responsibilities as a role model and is careful and wants portray the right image.

 

Belfast witnessed violent clashes between Republicans and Loyalists this week. (ANI)
