London, June 4 (ANI): British artist Lowry's work, the 'Hawker's Cart', depicting an urban landscape in northern England, has been sold for 555,000 pounds by the 'Royal Scottish Academy' at an auction in Edinburgh.
The sale was a part of the academy's 'rationalization' programme o raise money to buy new key works by Scottish artists.
"It may take some time but we can now make a start," the BBC quoted the academy's secretary Arthur Watson as saying.
"Our decision to sell the painting in Scotland has been fully justified," he added.
The academy, an independent, privately funded collective of artists and architects said that it had identified a number of Scottish painters missing from its current collection.
Lyon and Turnbull auction house also said that it was 'delighted' with the result. (ANI)
