North Carolina (US), June 4 (ANI): Former US Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards has pleaded not guilty to six counts of using campaign funds to support his mistress and child.
In a 30-second statement to waiting media outside the North Carolina courthouse, the Daily Mail quoted Edwards, as saying: "There is no question that I have done wrong. And I take full responsibility for having done wrong. And I will regret for the rest of my life the pain and the harm that I have caused to others. But I did not break the law."
His eldest daughter Cate flanked Edwards while he was making his statement.
The former presidential candidate was today indicted by a grand jury on six counts over 925,000 dollars allegedly spent keeping mistress Rielle Hunter and daughter Quinn in hiding during his 2008 run for the White House.
The case includes conspiracy, four counts of illegal campaign contributions and one count of false statements.
Edwards did not have to post bond at his arraignment, but he had to surrender his passport and is not allowed to leave the continental U.S. (ANI)
