Tokyo, June 1 (ANI): Tokyo Electric Power Corporation (TEPCO) has said that an oil spill and a small explosion took place at Japan's Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant, but assured that it has caused limited damage.
The China Post quoted TEPCO as saying that the plant's workers found an oil spill in the sea near reactors No. 5 and No. 6 on Tuesday, which were shutdown following the March 11 earthquake-cum-tsunami.
TEPCO spokesman Taichi Okazaki said that explosion at reactor No. 4 was likely to have taken place because of a gas leak, and assured that it did not cause any additional radiation leak.
However, he said that the cause of the explosion is being investigated.
Following the March 11 tsunami, a number of explosions larger than that of Tuesday had hit the plant and scattered highly radioactive debris, and particles into the environment. The plant has also leaked tons of radioactive water, which officials are promising to clean up.
TEPCO has promised to bring the plant under control by January. (ANI)
