Gadag (Karnataka) , Sun, 29 May 2011 ANI

Gadag (Karnataka), May 29 (ANI): Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Rajnath Singh has urged the Central Government to come out with a comprehensive action plan on promoting organic farming in the country.

Addressing organic farmers at an interactive session in Hettinahalli here on Saturday, Singh said: "The government should work towards the benefit of the farmers and a plan on organic farming should be chalked out."

"There should be a Comprehensive Action Plan (CAP) on organic farming and the policy and programmes under this plan should have an awareness programme campaign throughout the country," he added.

Singh also said that he would demand the Central Government to offer loans without interest to those farmers involved in organic farming.

He further congratulated Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa for his initiatives in boosting the state agricultural production.

"I want to congratulate Mr. Yeddyurappa for the agriculture growth rate of Karnataka state. More than six percent agriculture growth rate is there in the state whereas the national average growth rate in agriculture is less than two percent," he added. (ANI)
