Kazakhstan supports India's bid for permanent UNSC seat

Astana (Kazakhstan), Apr 16(ANI): India's bid to get a permanent seat in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) has got another boost after Kazakhstan assured of full support.

 

"Kazakhstan reaffirmed support of the candidature of India for permanent membership in the UN Security Council," a joint statement on Indian Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh's two-day official visit to the country said.

 

Dr. Singh had arrived in Kazakhstan capital Astana on Friday on the invitation of Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev.

 

During his visit he held discussions with Nazarbayev and met with Prime Minister K. Massimov.

 

Meanwhile, noting the strong credentials of Kazakhstan, India expressed support to the candidature of Kazakhstan for the non-permanent membership of the UNSC for 2017-2018.

 

"The sides agreed to support each other within the framework of UN and other multilateral for a," the statement said.

 

India and Kazakhstan also affirmed the need to strengthen the UN role in international affairs and consider the organization as a universal tool in the implementation of equitable relations among the members of international community as well as strengthening stability and security in the world.
