Ravi Shastri hopes for a fresh squad for Bangladesh tour

Delhi, Wed, 11 Apr 2007 Nadeem Bhat

April 11: After the world cup debacle and resignation of Coach Greg Chappell, the former Indian captain and all rounder Ravi Shastri was appointed as manager of the Indian cricket team on the interim basis for the upcoming tour of Bangladesh. The former skipper is dynamic and is currently on prowl for fresh blood to provide team India with killer instinct. Shastri is going to give it a try this time as he believes that playing against teams like Bangladesh gives an opportunity to experiment. Shastri on one occasion said: "A good team cannot be a bad team in two weeks and a good team cannot be an excellent team in two weeks."

"Captain is the boss and that is how it should be," says Shastri.

When asked about his approach he said that he is very comfortable with Rahul Dravid and expressed his liking for him as the captain of the team. He further added: “Once I sit down with skipper Rahul Dravid, a plan can be formulated for each and every player."

The BCCI working committee also suggested the selection committee to select younger players for the tour of Bangladesh under an experienced captain on Saturday. On the same afternoon, Rahul Dravid was retained as skipper for the next three tours.

Shastri is sure that there is no need for batting coach at the moment, and said he would impart his knowledge to help the team in the best possible way. The bowling coach for the squad will be Venkatesh Prasad and Robin Singh will be the fielding coach.

Shastri said he will go beyond limits to build a powerful and consistent Indian cricket team.

"My endeavor is to work hard to make the team enjoy the sport in the spirit of it and not to make it like nine-to-five desk job behind computer," he said.
