Mumbai, Oct 1 (IANS) As this city's landmark Haji Ali Dargah undergoes renovation, there is one question being asked by every resident - how will the proposed southward extension of the Bandra-Worli Sea Link to Nariman Point affect the shrine? There will be no effect, says the chairman of the trust that runs the shrine.
Haji Ali Dargah chairman and managing trustee Abdul Sattar Merchant told IANS that the sea link - a planned long bridge over the sea - will pass at least 100 metres away from the islet where the dargah is located and will not affect the beauty of the mausoleum.
Talking about other changes around the shrine, Merchant referred to the complaints of congestion at the entrance to the 65-year-old narrow causeway linking Worli on the mainland to the islet on which the shrine is situated. As a response, 'the trustees have moved court to remove its two-decade-old tenant, the Haji Ali Juice Centre', he said.
Open virtually round the clock, it is a popular haunt of the rich, Bollywood personalities and the movers and shakers of Mumbai for its snacks, milk shakes and fruit juices.
