Pak govt. seriously implementing 10-point reforms agenda: Gilani

Lahore , Mon, 07 Feb 2011 ANI

Lahore, Feb 7(ANI): Pakistan Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani has said his government is seriously implementing the 10-point reforms agenda given by the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) last month.

"We agreed to the 10-point agenda only after weighing all its aspects," the Dawn quoted Gilani, as saying.

"As some of the points require just administrative decisions, we can do it. Where there is need for legislation, we can at least move a bill in parliament, while reconstitution of the Election Commission is in the offing and talks on tabling a unanimous accountability bill are also making progress," he added.

Earlier, the PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif Nawaz had asked the PPP-led federal government to give a clear-cut reply on its list of demands, which included the withdrawal of the increase in POL prices, introducing a mechanism to control electricity and gas prices and load-shedding, effective measures to control corruption as well as ousting corrupt ministers and officers from government departments.

The PML-N had also demanded in its charter of demands that the PPP government implement the Supreme Court decisions- including its verdict against the NRO, ensure a 30 percent reduction in the government's development expenses, reconstitute the Election Commission of Pakistan, recover loans that were written off on political basis, ensure security of the country and strengthen the standing committees of both houses of parliament.

He also emphasized that if the government failed to translate the proposed agenda into reality by February 20, the PML-N would take other opposition parties on board on the same agenda.

"If other opposition parties do not agree or commit with us on our agenda, a stronger government would be needed through fresh mandate to implement it," Nawaz had said.

"If the prime minister accepts our demands, the government will have to implement it within 45 days and the PML-N would support him in its execution," he had added. (ANI)
