Pakistan nationals in Egypt are safe: Basit

Islamabad , Sun, 30 Jan 2011 ANI

Islamabad, Jan 30(ANI): Around 700 Pakistan nationals living in Egypt are all safe, Foreign Office spokesman Abdul Basit has said.

Pakistan's Ambassador to Cairo is in contact with local authorities on the safety of his countrymen, SAMAA TV quoted Basit, as saying.

He said the situation was not that grave in Egypt at the moment, but arrangements would be made to evacuate Pakistanis if need arises.

Massive protests are being staged across Egypt, calling for the resignation of President Hosni Mubarak.

Refusing to give in to a popular demand to resign, Mubarak has promised to replace ministers in his government.

The Egyptian Government is trying to quiet the message in an otherwise open society, shutting down major Internet and cell phone services, making communication and organization difficult. A curfew was issued, but ignored by protesters. (ANI)
