Tottenham's 'record' 25 million pound bid for Carroll

London , Sat, 29 Jan 2011 ANI

London, Jan 29 (ANI): Tottenham has offered a new improved 25 million pound bid for Newcastle striker Andy Carroll.

Chairman Daniel Levy made the offer for the England star directly to Newcastle chief Mike Ashley.

The 22 million pound fee with another three million pounds to follow would shatter Tottenham's current transfer record, which is the 16.5 million pound they paid to Charlton for Darren Bent in 2007, The Sun reports.

Newcastle has tried to stonewall all interest in Carroll, who has scored 11 goals this season.

But Tottenham is refusing to take 'no' for an answer even though Ashley has made it clear he does not want to sell the player.

Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp is a big admirer of Carroll but would like to sell some of his international forwards before the deal is done.

He is willing to sell Robbie Keane, who is interested in moving to West Ham, and Russian striker Roman Pavlyuchenko to make room for Carroll. (ANI)
