Australians warned not to travel to terror risk Ethiopia

Canberra, Wed, 26 Jan 2011 ANI

Canberra (Australia), Jan.26 (ANI): The Australian Foreign Ministry has warned the country's citizens to reconsider their need to travel to Ethiopia, East Africa, in the wake of reports of a possible terrorist attack.

"According to credible information, extremists are planning to bomb unspecified locations within Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, during the African Union Summit," the Sydney Morning Herald quoted the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), as saying in its latest travel advice.

"If you do decide to travel to Ethiopia, you should exercise extreme caution," it added.

The warning came as Foreign Minister Kevin Rudd left for Ethiopia on Monday for meetings with top Ethiopian officials and African foreign ministers on the African Union Summit's sidelines.

Rudd is also scheduled to open Australia's new embassy in Addis Ababa.

He is due to leave the country on Friday. He will then visit Switzerland, Turkey, Greece and Liechtenstein. (ANI)
