Nepali Congress leader accuses UN mission of supporting Maoists

Tue, 01 Jan 2008 ANI

Kathmandu, Sept 30 ( ANI): Nepali Congress (NC) acting president Sushil Koirala today said that the United Nations Mission in Nepal (UNMIN) has always tilted in favour of the Maoists since the peace process began.

Speaking to media persons here, Koirala claimed that the UNMIN has never spoken for rehabilitation of displaced people, returning of the properties seized by Maoists during the insurgency and effective implementation of the agreements and understanding reached with Maoists in the past.

He raised objection to the proposed induction of all Maoist combatants into the Nepali Army and reiterated that the integration of the Maoist combatants must be done on the basis of their experience.

He also said that the Nepali Congress will not form any militant youth wing like the Young Communist League (YCL) and the Youth Force.

He said Nepali Congress's existing youth wing Tarun Dal is enough to counter the unruly activities of Maoist's youth wing.

He further said that his party would now begin a nationwide discussion for a new Constitution and form of federalism in Nepal, Nepalnews reported. (ANI)
