Amman, May 26 (IANS) Jordan declared Monday the Syrian ambassador persona non grata and demanded his departure within 24 hours, media reported.
"The Jordanian foreign ministry handed the Syrian embassy in Amman a memo Monday including the government's decision considering Syrian Ambassador Bahjat Suleiman as persona non grata and asked that he leave within 24 hours," Xinhua cited the official Petra news agency as quoting foreign ministry spokeswoman Sabah Rafi.
The decision was made in response to Suleiman's "repeated abuses" against Jordan and its political leaders and institutions through his personal meetings, remarks to media and posts on social websites despite repeated warnings, the spokeswoman said.
