Qatar accused of working 1,200 migrants to death in building boom ahead of 2022 WC

London, Mon, 31 Mar 2014 ANI

London, Mar. 31 (ANI): Qatar has been reportedly accused of working 1,200 people to death after it was revealed that these migrant workers are forced to live in squalor, as the nation spends 39 billion-pound on its building bonanza for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

In an investigation by the Mirror it has been revealed that the oil-rich Emirate is exploiting the migrant workers by forcing them to live in squalor, drink salt water and paying them just 57p an hour.

According to the Mirror, campaigners fear that the death toll could reach to 4,000 before the Finals kick off and a worker said that they are being treated like slaves and their 'deaths are cheap'.

Meanwhile, FIFA is reportedly facing renewed pressure to call it a quit over Qatar's World Cup preparations following the exposure of mass deaths and vile exploitation of construction workers in the region.

A team of British trade union leaders and MPs visited the Gulf monarchy and after uncovering appalling abuse Qatar is inflicting upon the migrants, they have reportedly warned the nation that the 2022 tournament is being built 'on the blood and misery of an army of slave labour', the report added.
