Ashwell Prince announces retirement from professional cricket

Sydney, Mar 27 (ANI): Former South African batsman Ashwell Prince has reportedly announced that he will retire from professional cricket later this year.

Prince, who featured in 66 Tests for South Africa over the course of a nine-year international career, hit 3,665 runs at an average of 41.64 in his Test career and also played 52 one-day internationals and one Twenty20 international.

According to News.com.au, Prince revealed that his last match for South Africa would be in a domestic first-class match while his last official match is likely to be for English county Lancashire later this year.

Stating that he is grateful to have been given the opportunities in cricket, Prince said that he is now looking forward to a new phase in his life and is thankful that he has had a wonderful career in the sport, and expressed his thanks to everyone involved with him over the 19 years of his career.

Prince has stated one of his post-playing career aims is to establish a football academy for young people in his hometown of Port Elizabeth, the report added. (ANI)
