Malala urges teens not to use Facebook to get likes but to highlight women's issues

Islamabad , Sun, 09 Mar 2014 ANI

Islamabad, March 9 (ANI): Pakistan's Malala Yousafzai has reportedly asked teenagers to stop using social media to post pictures and get 'likes', instead the 16 year old has advised them to start using it to highlight women's issues.

Malala, who attended the Women of the World (WOW) festival at the Southbank Centre, on the occasion of International Women's Day, said that she did not use Facebook or Twitter or Instagram as it needed time, adding that her message to every teenager was that this is a great way for one to raise the issues that children are facing, of child trafficking, or FGM.

Malala said that she was not against social media as everyone needed some time to enjoy things, but if one used it in a good way, it could highlight issues that girls in India and in Pakistan were facing, the Nation reported.

Meanwhile, Malala also conveyed her disappointment to find that inspite of being a "modern" country, UK still had a sizeable gender gap in its Parliament. (ANI)
