Nearly 500 killed in Syrian rebels' conflict with Al Qaeda-linked ISIS group

London, Sat, 11 Jan 2014 ANI

London, Jan. 11 (ANI): Conflict between Syrian rebels and the Al-Qaeda-linked Islamist State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIS) has claimed nearly 482 lives till now, activists said.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights revealed that the death toll comprised of 85 civilians, 240 rebels and 157 ISIS fighters, the BBC reports.

According to the report, ISIS has killed 42 prisoners in Aleppo, while 47 members of the jihadist group had been executed by the rebels.

The latest clashes between the two groups erupted last Friday, when rebels led by the Islamic Front and backed by the opposition National Coalition, launched a series of co-ordinated strikes against ISIS.

ISIS's predominantly foreign fighters have been attacking and abusing fellow rebels and the civilian opponents of President Bashar al-Assad's government, which has led to frequent confrontations in recent months.

The fighting has spread across four provinces in rebel-held parts of northern Syria over the past week, the report added. (ANI)
