Pakistan's new Attorney General seeks govt's instructions on Musharraf treason trial

Islamabad, Tue, 18 Jun 2013 ANI

Islamabad, June 18 (ANI): The newly appointed attorney general of Pakistan is seeking written instructions from the federal government about the pending petitions seeking trial of former President Pervez Musharraf.

Munir A Malik said he will be seeking the instructions under Article 6 of the constitution, which deals with high treason.

Malik said was seeking government instructions as he believed in written communication and instructions and would seek the point of view of the elected government.

According to the Daily News, there are fears that international powers may influence the PML-N to acquit Musharraf in the treason case.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Bar Council Vice Chairman Qulbi Hassan has said initiating proceedings against Musharraf under Article 6 of the constitution is the biggest challenge for the newly elected government.

He, however, added that Musharraf should be given a fair trial.

A three-member bench of the apex court, headed by Justice Jawwad S Khawaja, will resume hearing of Musharraf treason case on June 24, the report added. (ANI)
