BCCI's IPL spot fixing:Justice Chouta says won't comment till committee is complete

Bangalore, Mon, 03 Jun 2013 ANI

Bangalore, June 3 (ANI): Justice (retired) T. Jayaram Chouta, who has been appointed by the Board of Control for Cricket of India (BCCI) to head a commission of inquiry to look into spot fixing allegations in the sixt edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), said Monday that he could not and would not comment on the issue till the membership of the committee is complete.

"The commission consists of three members, out of which, Sanjay Jagdale has resigned as honorary secretary of the BCCI. Unless the committee is complete, we cannot comment on this issue. We have not received any communication from the BCCI," Justice Chouta said.

He also said that the BCCI has to still formally appoint an interim president in place of incumbent N.Srinivasan.

He insisted that it was left to the BCCI to appoint some other person following Board secretary Sanjay Jagdale's decision to step down from his post and out of the probe panel.

"It is left to the BCCI to appoint some other person. Last night, we came to know about the resignation of Mr. Sanjay Jagdale," he said.

Justice Chouta, Justice R Balasubramanian, former Judge of the Madras High Court, and Jagdale were in the three-member inquiry commission, which was appointed by the BCCI to go into the allegations against Gurunath Meiyappan, son-in-law of N Srinivasan, who has been arrested on charges of betting in the recently-concluded Indian Premier League matches.

Meanwhile, Jagdale reiterated the BCCI needed some new faces to come in.

"I have been deeply hurt by the latest developments that took place in Indian cricket in the last few days. I was hurt just in a way millions of cricket fans have been hurt since I as a former player am attached to the game for so long.

"Some changes needs to be done and I thought it's better to get out so that some new faces come in. He, however, added that 'not everyone is corrupt in the BCCI'," said Jagdale. (ANI)
