Wenger to smash through Arsenal wage structure to battle PSG, Monaco for 'wantaway' Rooney

Football, Sat, 25 May 2013 ANI

London, May 25 (ANI): Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is ready to break through the club's wage structure to bring in a stellar signing like Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney.

The Arsenal hierarchy will back Wenger not just in terms of big money for transfers but also for contracts and they are capable of competing to sign Rooney, the Mirror reports.

According to the report, Wenger's top earner is Theo Walcott on 90,000 pounds-a-week-plus and Arsenal can push their boundaries well beyond 150,000 pounds-a-week for the right player.

Arsenal have a big hit-list of transfer targets with Wenger having 70 million pounds-plus at his disposal thanks to the club's new commercial deals with Emirates and kit makers Puma.

The report further said that Rooney, who is out of favour at United and has been targeted by Paris Saint Germain, Monaco and Chelsea, his name may excite Arsenal fans, despite the stiff competition from PSG and Monaco.

The report also mentioned that although PSG is ready to pay Rooney around 300,000 pounds-a-week and Monaco are also deadly serious but it remains to be seen whether he would fancy France.

It would also represent an irony if Arsenal could snatch Rooney just 12 months after selling Robin van Persie to United, the report added. (ANI)
