Jihadis, criminal hackers planning mega cyber attacks on US websites

Washington , Tue, 07 May 2013 ANI

Washington, May 7 (ANI): Criminal cyber hackers from the Middle East and North Africa have joined hands to plan for cyber attacks against the websites of U.S. government agencies, banks and other companies, according to the Department of Homeland Security.

The department has already circulated warnings to the American private sector organizations that the attacks dubbed as OpUSA (Operation USA) will begin from Tuesday, the Washington Time reports.

Cybercrime expert Brian Krebs has said that attackers are likely to use commercial hacking tools in a variety of 'nuisance-level' strikes that will deface websites or temporarily shut them off.

The bulletin has predicted that the attacks are being promoted by website moderators that host materials related to Al Qaeda and other Islam extremist groups.

The hackers will supposedly issue public declarations for these cyber attacks, which will be closely monitored by the Homeland Security officials for signs of an emerging alliance between anonymous hackers and Islam extremist groups.

So far, 46 U.S. financial institutions have been targeted in more than 200 separate attacks, according to last month's FBI bulletin. (ANI)
