Spinner Monty Panesar good to replace Graeme Swann for Ashes 2013: Stuart MacGill

London , Mon, 29 Apr 2013 ANI

London, Apr.29 (ANI): Australian bowling Coach Stuart MacGill has reportedly said that the England cricket team needs left-arm spinner Monty Panesar to join the team for challenging the Australians during the Ashes series in 2013, more than recovering right-arm off spinner Graeme Swann.

MacGill's statement comes after a week of Swann's second elbow surgery in New Zealand, as the injured bowler is trying to become fit again for playing in the next month's two-match test series, the Mirror reports.

With a series of elbow surgeries and a score of 208 Test wickets in just 44 matches in his cricket career, MacGill believes that though Swann is capable of notching good scores but he has only bowled well in patches when playing against Australia, adding that Swann must feel strongly that he can bowl well in a test match post surgery.

However, MacGill assured that the England cricket team has a ready-made replacement in form of Panesar and need not worry about putting the match together in the test series against Australia as the right-arm spinner, he opines is a lot more fit than Swann. (ANI)
